Peter Colquitt

Since leaving Art College in the late 1950s, Peter Colquitt has consistently exhibited his work throughout the country. His main interest is sculpture, though he also exhibits paintings, drawings and prints.

Peter exhibited at the first Galanthus Sculpture in the Garden 2005 and again in 2006, whilst this is also a second time exhibition inside the gallery.

Drawing is a vital part of Colquitt’s working process; he typically works from drawing to sculpture to print and back again. The series of drawings on show here are inspired by Peter’s travels to France, partially topographical; they are also concerned with the qualities which breeze gives to a landscape, creating ever shifting patterns of grasses.

The drawings initially are about our journey down to our French home (they are partially topographical). As I near the village, the landscape has at certain points elements that are visually significant to me; the pattern of the fields, the roll of the hills or a group of trees, which I particularly enjoy seeing.
