Rachel Sudworth graduated from Loughborough University’s School of Art and Design in 2001 with an Honours degree in Printed Textile Design.
Her career started as a textile and wallpaper designer for leading studios, Yellow Label Designs, in Manchester (2001-03), then as senior designer for Tom Lewis Designs (2003-08), and then Design and Development Manager (2008).
During designing textile and wallpaper designs which sold worldwide, Rachel also completed private commissions and sold paintings to raise money for a school building project in Malawi.
Rachel began working as an independent artist during 2009 after a recent move to Herefordshire where she is surrounded by her inspiration of nature and countryside.
I have always been fascinated by nature and the outdoors; the colours textures and forms found in rural and wild landscapes are my constant inspiration.
I regularly travel with my partner around the UK, to our favourite places. I feel lucky to be surrounded by so much beautiful countryside; and travel to Wales, The Lakes, Peaks and Dales, The Isle of Skye, and Mull to name a few! I was really excited when a recent move meant that I now live and work surrounded by the beautiful Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Countryside. I can step out of my studio and watch the buzzards circling and hear the wind in the trees.
Colour is an intrinsic part of my work; I love the changing seasons and the different palettes and moods they bring. I like to combine the qualities of paint and ink with drawing and mark making, building delicate layers of different textures and surfaces.
My paintings evoke an essence of the places I visit, capturing the feeling like a memory.
