Jane-Ann Butler

Jane-Ann Butler's interest in photography developed 'after receiving a Polaroid camera as a gift from my parents at the age of ten; photography became instant and fun.'

It wasn't until Jane-Ann was twenty-eight, and looking for a change of direction that she decided to turn her interest into her career. So she set about studying A level and foundation level photography, acquiring a wealth of technical and creative knowledge, which she then developed and refined into her own style.

'My art come from an intuitive response to nature through photography, an attempt to capture the subjects physical and ethereal beauty. My flower portraits present the most delicate and fragile subjects as larger than life characters; revealing their natural power, purpose and importance. I aim to delve deeper than surface beauty; to reveal the inner spirit, and make its beauty tangible. My art explores the joy and beauty in everything, no matter how tiny or insignificant it may first appear.'

In 2002, Jane-Ann won the digital category at Lauderdale Gallery, London. She has exhibited at MOMA, Wales; Blue Wing Gallery, Kew London; Association of Photographers Gallery, London; and the Cannonball Fine Art Gallery, California; as well as galleries in France, Finland; and ARTFAIR, AntwerpExpo, Antwerp. Her work has been featured in magazines in this country and abroad. Most of us in the UK will be familiar with Jane-Ann's work without realizing it because her orchid image is currently used on bags and merchandising materials for Monsoon clothes stores
