Lines, written and drawn, run right through our early summer exhibition at Galanthus, in celebration of the Hay Literary Festival. Inspired by American westerns, Lois Hopwood's striking drawings look for high horizons and big skies, her expressive lines causing the eye to swoop through her landscapes. The words that Ken Hurd puts into his pictures are often surprising and evocative, exposing a secret and as yet unexplored landscape; while Kay Williamson is drawn to graphic forms made up of texture and line in her textile pieces. Catherine Ball uses lines of thread stitched into ceramics to reveal the sculptural qualities of her forms. Michelle Freemantle scratches words into her stoneware vessels, often snippets of thoughts inspired by her travels. Plus we are showing exquisite book art by Lucy May Schofield, Heather Weston and Heather Hunter.
