Dorothy Lawrenson
Border snow: fences and trees, ink on paper

The Scottish and Northumbrian Border country is the starting-point for much of Dorothy Lawrenson's work. Her fluid and spontaneous sketches inform her work in the studio, which exploits the peculiar abstract qualities of her sketches without completely obscuring their landscape origins.
Renowned ceramicist John Bedding worked with Bernard Leach, first as an apprentice and then, after a year in France, as a member of staff. John's recent exhibitions include Tate St Ives and Galleries in Cork Street, London. He believes that ‘pottery is exclusive to all other arts in that it is the closest to nature. A potter has the ability to explore the elemental forces that make up the world around us, which is the ultimate goal in most art.'
